It's been a while since my last post. Although I can dream up at least 100 good reasons why I haven't posted (and I can), the real reason is that the year had just about spun out of control, with so many things going on simultaneously.
A tragic event, however, is what prompted me to think more about the reality of hope and write again. Just last week, 6 children and one of their teachers were swept away by what was described as a 'rain bomb' in the Mangatepopo river. The 7 victims came from a local Christian high school. The most encouraging thing to note in the aftermath of this huge tragedy is the way in which the community has pulled together.
It was quite obvious that questions were going to be raised about where God, to whom these students devoted their lives, was at the time when they seemed to need Him most. The overtones of grace however that have appeared in every newspaper article, on every television interview have shown just how much hope this community has in the God they trust. The school's motto is 'a hope and a future,' extracted from the BIble, specifically Jeremiah 29:11. Many were asking whether they still had a basis for their hope. Gauging from the response that the surviving adventure camp instructor received, one of complete forgiveness and grace, I'd say so.
